LI GONGBIAO

Born in Luoyang, Henan Province in China in 1984, he worked as a stone carver from 1999 to 2007 and began studying iron art in 2008. He used to call himself "Ironsmith". In his early works, Li Gongbiao used iron craft to create functional objects, and then gradually expanded to experimental creations of metal materials, abstracting visual language according to the nature of materials. On the basis of inheriting the classical culture, his works are recreated with the contemporary aesthetic and spirit, which makes the traditional utensils acquire a new style of The Times

Li Gongbiao's recent works mostly use bismuth metal as raw materials. Bismuth metal is hard and brittle, with stable chemical communication. It will quickly oxidize in the air and reflect dazzling silver-white light. Liquid bismuth metal was cast in the mud mold, and the boiling mud water left a wavy texture on the surface of the sculpture. The random creation process greatly enriched the shape of the work which make each sculpture has its unique language.
